USER INFO

  1. Natural cowhides are suitable for low and average traffic dry areas.
  2. After the cowhide has been unpacked, it may need some time to flatten. Keep the cowhide on the floor and the folding marks will disappear in a couple of days.
  3. Burn and brand marks, scars, colour differences and corrections of the surface as well as uneven hair density only assert the genuineness of the hide and are not a sign of a low quality.
  4. Some slight shedding may occur during the use.
  5. Objects with strong edges, like chair legs, wheels or other furniture items may damage the surface of the cowhide.
  6. Rotate the cowhide occasionally, so that it will wear evenly.
  7. Long-term direct sunlight may cause fading of the fur of the cowhide.
  8. Cowhides have characteristic smell which may become more intensive in rooms with high air humidity. In order to reduce the smell, we suggest to hang the cowhide outdoors to air.
  9. The edges of the inner curves of the hide may become slightly wavy and also curl up – this is normal process.
  10. Intensive underfloor heating can make the leather excessively dry.

CARE & CLEANING

  1. Narma cowhides are easy to clean.
  2. Shake the rug gently to remove the dust and debris from the fur.
  3. Vacuum gently, moving the plain, no-brush nozzle only in the direction of the hair.
  4. Do not rub with the vacuum cleaner too hard or against the hair – this may cause hair breakage and lead to bald spots on the rug, especially in neck, belly and legs area.
  5. Clean the cowhide occasionally with a soft cloth dampened in clean water or neutral soap solution. Avoid excessive scrubbing.
  6. Avoid washing in water, cleaning with steam and dry cleaning.
  7. Do not use bleach, solvent-based or abrasive cleaning agents.
  8. Immediately remove all liquids or solids with a paper towel, soft cloth or sponge dabbing from the edges to the center.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

  1. Question: Why is the purchased cowhide so different from the one on the product photo?
Answer: Cowhides are not mass produced, but created by nature. Each hide is unique and differs by pattern, hair length and density, fur thickness and softness, as well as by many other features. Cowhides may also have various man-caused marks, e.g. stitched cuts and burn marks, which are acceptable, too.
  2. Question: Is it normal that the cowhide smells unpleasantly?
Answer: Cowhides have characteristic smell, just like all tanned products. The tolerance level may vary depending on a person’s sensitivity. The smell becomes more intensive or decreases in accordance with the temperature and air humidity of the room. In order to reduce the smell, it is suggested to hang the cowhide outdoors to air.
  3. Question: Folding marks have not disappeared during the first months. What to do?
Answer: The period which is required for the folding marks and creases to disappear may be longer if the first use of the product occurs in the heating season when the humidity level of the interior spaces is lower than usual. Underfloor heating may also increase drying. It is suggested to lightly spray the folding marks on the backside of the hide with the clean water, let it sink in and then leave the cowhide flat on the floor to dry. Some additional weight piled up on top of the folding marks might help as well.
  4. Question: Why has my cowhide developed bald spots?
Answer: Moderate shedding is quite common to natural hides. Sheep skins are the softest and the most durable among natural hides. The fur of other hide types, including cowhides, is more stiff and thus subject to various mechanical influences – hair may snap and break easily. It is important not to rub the cowhide with the vacuum cleaner too hard or against the hair – this may cause hair breakage and lead to bald spots on the rug, especially in neck, belly and legs area. It is also essential to use the product only in low and average traffic areas.
